Schools - Bishop Tonnos

"Ground-breaking" - this phrase best summarizes the event of the past three years as the building and community of Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School took shape. On. May 22, 2003, Bishop Tonnos proudly took part in the ceremony that initiated the building of this secondary school, the first in twenty six years. During the next months, excitement spread as visits were made to the Grade 8 students of our feeder schools and some Grade 9 students of St. Mary's and St. Thomas More began to think about being members of the first graduating class. September 2004 saw the new Bishop Tonnos school community of Grade 9 and 10 students take up temporary residence in the former Christ the King elementary school. Proximity to the Cathedral and the Bishop's residence provided opportunities for the staff and students to become better acquainted with our Bishop after whom the school is named. Before we knew it, boxes were packed again and on January 31 2004, under the leadership of Mr. Nat Gallo, we were off to 100 Panabaker Drive, the permanent home of the Bishop Tonnos Titans.

The highlight of the year, of course, was the Blessing and Official Opening of the school which took place on April 17, 2005. Students, parents, staff and the community celebrated all that has been given to us and looked forward to the opportunities ahead of us to live and work as "One School, with the Goal of living our faith under the guidance and grace of our Lord, Jesus."

Already 1200 strong, the students and staff at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School can boast of high academic achievement, flourishing spirituality, increasing global awareness and numerous sports championships.
