All subjects are identified by a five character code consisting of:

three letters to designate the course
a number to designate the grade level:
- 1 - Grade 9
- 2 - Grade 10
- 3 - Grade 11
- 4 - Grade 12
the letter to designate the course type:
- D - Academic
- P - Applied
- O - Open
- L - Locally Developed
- C - College
- M - College/University
- U - University
- E - Workplace
