COURSE PREREQUISITES
Some courses extend or build upon the knowledge and skill developed in another course. The course that gives the required background and training is a prerequisite of the course that follows.
If a course has a prerequisite, it will be noted below the course description found in the course description section of the webpage. The prerequisite course must be successfully completed before the student may register in the next course.
Some courses do not require specific skills or knowledge, but experience has shown that some related background or maturity prepares the student for success. Recommendations of this nature may also be included at the end of the course description.
Course Prerequisite Charts for all courses are included. Students and parents should consult these charts to determine the appropriate educational destination pathway.
Cross-over Courses
These courses are on-line 30-hour module courses offered to students who wish to change from academic courses to applied or from applied courses to academic. The Principal may recommend that students complete these courses in order to be better prepared. More information is available at each secondary school. No credit is granted for these courses.
Transfer Courses
A transfer course is a partial-credit course that bridges the gap between courses of two different types in the same subject and grade. Students who revise their educational and career goals and who wish to change from one destination-related stream to another in a particular subject may often do so by taking a transfer course. Transfer courses enable students to achieve the expectations not covered in one course type but required for entry into a course in the next grade. For example, the prerequisite for the Grade 11 university preparation course in English is the Grade 10 academic course in English. A student who is taking the applied English course in Grade 10 but who decides to enter the university preparation course in Grade 11 may do so by taking a transfer course.
